Edward Henry Leavens

To Chris and Family, so sorry to hear of your loss. Good memories of you Chris and Ed while working at Leavens between 1977 and 1983. Please accept our condolences, Larry, Sue and Family.

I had the great pleasure of working at Leavens Motors on First Street back in the glory days of British sports cars in the late 60s. Ed was a great mentor and boss. We had fun surrounded by MGs, Healeys, Jags, Lotus', and of course, my favourites- the Minis. Ed had a great group of employees who shared his love of cars. Great 'sales meetings' on his sailboat. I think of Ed every time I drive out Hwy 4 north of London. My condolences to the Leavens family on your loss.

Hi,Pat We went to Teacher's College together and were in the Earle Terry's. I think we were married the same year.My husband died in 1983 but I was fortunate to remarry in 1985. Sorry to hear of the difficult time that Ed and family must have had with his illness,Was a great fellow. Haven't seen much of family recently, ,been quite a while since we swam in the pool. Children had fun. .Do remember picking up Paul once when he was walking with replenished gas can. Trust in God's Comfort and Care at this time.

I have fond memories of my time with Ed. I became Ed’s accountant and friend many years ago at the time of his stressful transition from owning a British Leyland dealership to owning a Volkswagen dealership. Over the many years I have known him, I found him, besides being a good businessman, to be an excellent person in his dealings with his employees and customers. I distinctly remember my mother-in-law telling me of a time she was waiting at the curb on a rainy day for a bus outside of the dealership. When Ed saw her, he offered to drive her home, which she accepted. A true gentleman in all respects. I am sure looking down from above he would be proud of his son, Chris, carrying on business in the same friendly and gentlemanly fashion. This example is illustrated by Leavens VW recently being chosen by its employees as one of the best 25 dealerships to work for out of 3200 in Canada. I was privileged to have introduced Ed to small boat sailing on Fanshawe Lake. He soon became a competent sailor and graduated to sailing keel boats on Lake Huron and the Caribbean. I recall an enjoyable trip with Ed from Grand Bend to Tobermory, and then flying back to London in his friend’s small plane. Ed also became a competent pilot himself. He enjoyed flying a small high-winged plane, which I believe he called Popeye, out of a small landing strip north of London. I also recall introducing Ed, Pat, and my wife Sally to downhill skiing, but unfortunately none of them graduated from ‘Ken’s Ski School’ - a poor teacher I guess.
