Knud “Ken” Iversen

Knud “Ken” Peter Iversen passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022, at the age of 95, reuniting with his wife of 68 years, Betty, who passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. An incredibly kind man with a gentle heart, Ken valued spending time in the backyard with his children and grandchildren. Ken spent hours around the pool, throwing a baseball and sharing anecdotes about world events or the latest book he was reading.
Ken is survived by his children Karen (Henry), Karsten “Kas” (Annette), Michael (Laurie), and Gail (Richard). He is lovingly remembered by his seven grandchildren: Kristopher (Kristy), Dane, Rachael (Brandon), Katherine, Grant (Taylor), Kevin, and Konor, and his three great-grandchildren: Kaje, Knox, and Kree. Predeceased by his parents, Iver and Karen, and siblings: Inger Petra, Grethe, Svend, and Poul. Ken is joyfully remembered by his niece, Else Christiansen, and extended family throughout Denmark, as well as many friends and neighbours.
Ken married Betty in 1953, before moving to Canada in 1957. They moved to Saskatchewan before settling in London, Ontario to raise their children. Ken was the kindest, most charitable man, who never missed a moment to remind his grandchildren how proud of them he was.
Avid travelers, Ken and Betty always shared stories of their Caribbean and European vacations, and he encouraged their family to learn more about the world. During their travels, Ken spent most of his time in the water; snorkeling, windsurfing, parasailing, and virtually any water sport available. Ken was unfailingly young in spirit and had an unshakeable work ethic. He maintained his yearly golf membership through his 90s and valued his annual Father’s Day game with his great-grandchildren.
Ken led with a gentle hand, and we will all do better to approach life with his genuine optimism.
A private burial and celebration of life with immediate family will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022.

A donation has been made to Boys & Girls Club. Message from the donator: I am so sorry to hear of the passing of this one-of-kind man. An amazing grandfather, father, husband and friend to many. I wish I got to know him better as I know how highly he was thought of. Sending all my love to the Ward family (my second family) - Rachael, Grant, Gail & Richard - and all other family and friends saddened by his passing. His life will be remembered and celebrated always.

Dear family, I am thinking of you all who will miss Knud and his wholehearted love. My mother was very fond of her brother Knud. They would sit late in the evening talking, fixing the situation of the world and discussing politics. Knud kept on following the news of the world and for many years my mother sent him danish newspapers. Knud often said to me that I looked like my mother and maybe I inherited the good feelings he had for her. When I was in London he took part in all the pleasant arrangements that Betty had planned for me and it was always enjoyable to talk with him. It was especially fantastic to hear about their first time in Canada. He was a gentle and loving man. I will miss him. Love from Else.
