Silverio Da Naia Sardo

December 27, 1933 - June 30, 2025

With eternal love and breaking hearts, we announce the passing of Silverio Sardo (Avo Naia) who departed from this life June 30, 2025 at the age of 91.

Predeceased by his parents Manuel Da Naia Sardo and Maria Evangelina De Jesus.

Loving husband of over 50 years to Maria Belmira (deceased August 2011).

Inspirational father to Manny (deceased June 1991) and to John (Maria).

Cherished grandfather “Avo Naia” to Nathan, Breanna, Miguel and our puppy Cole.

Brother to Alberto (deceased March 2007), Maria Evangelina (deceased March 2008), Maria Dos Anjos and Gloria, both of Portugal.

Also survived by many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Silverio was born December 27, 1933 and raised in Seixo de Mira, Portugal. Growing up during the great depression and the Second World War, he gained an appreciation for living life and enjoying life to the fullest. He loved to sing and to dance, especially to traditional Portuguese Folklore music. He valued spending time and having fun with family and friends, while enjoying good food served with Portuguese red wine.

Married November 20, 1960 to the love of his life, Maria Belmira, they both made the journey to Canada on October 29, 1963 in search of a better life and would make London their home. In his early years in Canada, Silverio would help many Portuguese immigrants get their start by offering his home “Castelo de Guimarães” as a place to stay while getting settled. Many new friendships were created thanks to his generosity. Despite life’s challenges, he was always ready to help others and would always greet you with a friendly smile, a silly saying and/or a funny joke.

He was one of the founding members of the current Portuguese Club of London and also enjoyed performing in amateur theatre for both the Club and Church. His most memorable role was being Santa Claus for the children’s Christmas parties. He was the perfect size and only needed the red suit, hat and beard.

Silverio had an amazing work ethic, working mainly as a construction labourer as well as a bread maker / delivery person for a local Portuguese bakery. In his later working years, he would become a custodian for the London Board of Education. He would eventually retire to enjoy spending some time back home in Portugal as well as spending time in Canada, while having the privilege of watching his grandchildren grow up into fine young adults.

Visitation will be held at Northview Funeral Chapel, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London, on Thursday, July 3, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with prayers at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Northview Funeral Chapel on Friday, July 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, London.
