Barry James Deneau
June 8, 2026
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Barry James Deneau on June 8, 2026, at the age of 69, surrounded by close family.
He was predeceased by his father, William Deneau, and his brothers, William “Bill” Deneau (survived by Diane) and Brian Deneau.
He will be deeply missed by his daughter, April Robinson (St. Clair); son-in-law, Josh Robinson; his cherished grandsons, Theodore “Theo” and Charles “Charlie” Robinson; and Cathy St. Clair, mother of his daughter and an important part of his life.
He is survived by his mother, Alice Deneau (Bray); his sisters, Denise Deneau, Leanne Egan (Chris), and Lisa Deneau; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family members, friends, and neighbours.
Throughout his life, Barry worked with his hands. From factory floors and foundries to welding departments and assembly lines, he was never afraid of hard work. In later years, he became the person neighbours turned to when something needed fixing. Whether it was frozen pipes, a broken deck, a renovation project, or a repair no one else wanted to tackle, he was always willing to help. He was known for helping others not for profit but simply because they needed help.
A quiet man, Barry expressed himself through the things he built, repaired, and created for others. He enjoyed woodworking, planning projects, listening to music, and following current political events. A devoted music lover, he saw more than 137 live bands and enjoyed artists such as David Bowie, John Cale, and The Velvet Underground. Over his lifetime, he also enjoyed visiting museums, admiring historic architecture, attending performances by Cirque du Soleil, and collecting antique coins and bills, tools, and wood for future projects. He loved exploring the streets of Old Quebec City, Montreal, and Toronto, and enjoyed reminiscing about his time spent living and working in Lake Louise and Vancouver. He always enjoyed a good meal—especially Detroit- and Windsor-style pizza, and could often be found enjoying a coffee at Tim Hortons.
Above all, he took great pride in his family. His grandsons, Theo and Charlie, brought him tremendous joy in recent years. During the past year, he found comfort in spending time with family and close friends. He also enjoyed many peaceful days outside, appreciating the sunshine and watching nature from his favourite spots.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mai, Dr. Kim, Dr. Breadner, the Paramed nursing staff, the staff of the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre, and the many staff members at Victoria Hospital and University Hospital for their care and compassion.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Family will gather privately to celebrate his life, with interment at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre.
