Ingrid Gerda Kornmuller

November 3, 2026

Ingrid Gerda Kornmuller passed away on November 3, 2026, at University Hospital in London, Ontario, at the age of 90.

Born on September 20, 1936, in Heidelberg, Germany, Ingrid came to Canada in 1956 for what was intended to be a visit. As fate would have it, just three days after arriving, she met the man who would become her husband, Karl. Three months later, they were married, and Ingrid’s visit to Canada became a new life. Together, they settled in London, Ontario, where they built their family and made a home.

Over the years, Ingrid held a variety of jobs, including waitressing and working alongside Karl in the driveway restoring cars for resale. She eventually spent a decade working at OHIP, where she formed many lifelong friendships.

Ingrid was a devoted mother to her two children, Heidi (Larry) and Peter (Laurie), and took great pride in her family. She was an especially proud Oma to her four grandchildren, Katie, Adam (Tara), Matthew (Nicole) and Anna (Trent). Ingrid took an active and loving interest in their lives and was always supportive throughout their school years.

Those who knew Ingrid will remember her as a feisty, strong-willed woman who never hesitated to share her opinions. She had a directness and determination that were unmistakably her own, and she certainly wasn’t someone who was afraid to speak her mind. It was all part of what made Ingrid, Ingrid.

After retirement, Ingrid and Karl enjoyed spending many winters in Lakeland, Florida, where golfing became a favourite pastime. Following Karl’s untimely passing in 1999, Ingrid continued to embrace life and the opportunities it offered, travelling extensively and visiting many countries. Some of her most cherished trips were those with Heidi and Katie to Australia and Alaska.

Ingrid also had a lifelong enthusiasm for sports. Whether it was hockey, tennis or Formula 1 racing, she loved following the action. She was a particularly loyal fan of the London Knights, faithfully recording their results in a calendar that was never far from reach.

Ingrid will be remembered for the life she built in Canada, the family she cherished, the friendships she maintained, her independent spirit and the many experiences and adventures she enjoyed along the way. She leaves behind a family who will miss her dearly and remember her with love.
