Anne Theodora Bekker
1950 – 2024

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Anne Bekker (nee Bardoel) at St. Joseph’s Hospice in London, Ontario, on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Now reunited with her late husband, William Bekker, whom she dearly missed, Anne’s memory will be fondly remembered by her daughters, Nicole Bekker and Melissa Welsh, and her son-in-law, Ryan Welsh. A beloved Oma, her grandchildren, Sydney, Quinn, and Noah, will dearly miss her warm and nurturing presence. As the eighth of twelve children, Anne leaves behind a legacy of love and memories with her siblings: Herman (and the late Betty), Martin (and the late Coral), Truus Beerkens (Chris), Marie Smits (and the late John), the late Harry (Trudy), the late Ben, Nellie Pijls (Hans), Joe (Heidi), Jan, and Ger (Paula), along with all of her loving nieces and nephews, and the Bekker Family in Holland. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her, both in Canada and Holland.

Born on January 6, 1950, in Merselo, Venray, The Netherlands, and having made Canada her home in 1971, Anne’s life was a testament to her strong love for her family and friends. There was nothing she loved more than the role of being an Oma to her grandchildren, Noah, Quinn, and Sydney. Every moment with them, as well as the times spent reminiscing with her siblings, were held close to her heart. Anne’s love for a good cup of coffee, always paired with a heartfelt chat, exemplified her warm and welcoming spirit.

Anne’s life was greatly enriched by the kidney transplant she received from her brother Martin 21 years ago, a life-altering gift that deepened her appreciation for every moment shared with loved ones. We are forever grateful to the transplant and nephrology teams for their expertise and care, and most recently, to all the nurses and PSWs on the 9th floor (Orthopedics) at University Hospital and the team at St. Joseph’s Hospice for their compassion and support.

A Celebration of Anne’s life will be conducted at Northview Funeral Chapel, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m with visitation taking place at 10:00 a.m.

Donations to The Kidney Foundation of Canada or St. Joseph’s Hospice, London, in memory of Anne are appreciated.

Her legacy of kindness, resilience, and unwavering love for her family will forever be remembered and cherished.

Dearest Nicole and Melissa. Our deepest sympathies to you both and all your extended families. I believe I can speak on behalf of the entire VanBoekel family; your Mom was a truly special woman. We spent a lot of time with the Bardoel family growing up and your Mom was always full of such kindness and love. She held a spirit of wanting everyone to belong and enjoy each moment! Her smile and laughter is a big part of who she was-someone who truly enjoyed life! Through all the grief, hang onto the good memories tightly! Our thoughts are with you all! the entire VanBoekel family! Pete, Chris, Bert(Shannon), Peter(Sarah), Laurie(Mark) and Diane(Kurt). ❤️Remembered Forever❤️

Nicole, Melissa and the rest of the family. I am deeply saddened and at the same time, happy, happy that she’s reuniting with Uncle Bill. From our many talks (and laughs) , I know she missed him deeply. I want to thank you for giving me the best birthday gift last weekend, talking to Tante Annie one last time filled my heart so much. She made an impact on everyone she met, her laugh was contagious and I am so very grateful to have known her. Stay strong. You are all in my thoughts and forever in my heart. Love and miss you Ana
