Carmen Gicante P.Eng., MBA

November 30, 2023

Carmen Gicante passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Wednesday, November 30, 2023 at 75 years young. Cherished husband of Corrie for 52 years, devoted father/father-in-law of Philip (Stacey) and Ryan (Lori). Doting grandfather to Saxon, Matteo, Stella, Nico, Finn. Dear son of Clelia (d.1976), Gaetano (d.1997). Oldest brother of Al (Lynda d.2015), Gino (Kathy), Carlo (d.2023) (Colette), Dan (Rebecca). Brother in-law of Nick (Margie), Cathy (John), Ellen (Fred), Marty (Heather), Marian (Ray). Dear Uncle to 19 nephews and nieces.

Carmen’s influence extended beyond his love of family. He was an avid reader, music lover, and car and wine aficionado and travelled the world with Corrie.  As a friend, colleague and mentor, his life and work are a testament to his passion for transformational leadership and commitment to many volunteer roles at his parish and larger community.  He retired from a successful business career with Ontario Hydro and focused his energy on helping start-up and early stage companies get investor ready and raise angel and seed capital.  He was a cornerstone of Angel One, a major influence and contributor to SWOAG as well as the broader entrepreneurial and investment community. Carmen’s dedication to supporting entrepreneurs made our community stronger and enriched the lives of many.

Carmen was a long time friend of mine. Over the decades, I would see him perhaps once per year. Not as often as I would have liked. Every time we got together, he would always be so interesting to me and we would engage in fun and intriguing discussions. He taught me a lot. We shared a passion for technology, for business, and for innovative thinking. Carmen loved innovation and invention. It must have been the engineer in him? Everyone who knew Carmen understood that he loved cars. Over the years we talks cars and his love for BMW automobiles was perhaps his only flaw. As a true blue Mercedes guy, I saw his affinity for BMWs as his one failing in life. You see, for my last four Mercedes, he would always walk outdoors to say so long whenever we parted after a get together. He would look at my new cars and consistently say the exact same thing, "It has a noisy engine". I saw that as a criticism of my love for Mercedes and it sparked a lifelong, albeit fun, rivalry between us regarding the best manufacturer. We never aligned on this point. To me, he instantly erased his automotive brand flaw with his excellent luck in marrying Corrie. They were a perfect pairing. Carmen's one flaw was now easily forgotten due to his brilliant selection in his spouse. My heart goes out to Corrie for her huge loss. Carmen cannot be replaced. Corrie can cherish the many years that she shared with him. But now she can finally move away from those BMWs......

Our paths crossed years ago at Amtelecom, Aylmer. As I think about our friendship, I hear your contagious laugh ringing like a lost melody. Thinking of you Corrie, and your family at this difficult time. Carmen had such a generous heart and lived with passion. Every time I visited, he always had great stories and some business lessons to share. My most recent memory with Carmen was when we had some celebratory wine in the beautiful lush backyard of the Gicante's before I started a new chapter in my career. This is a memory I will forever cherish. Rest in sweetest peace, Carmen.

Dearest Gicante family, Carmen was loved by all that knew him , Carmen often was kind hearted , and always made people feel loved. Carmen is survived by 2 of his wonderful and caring sons Philip and Ryan …and loving wife Corrie. I am currently the only physical disabled member of this extended family however both Carmen and Corrie, never saw my physical disability , and showed both sons (Phil and Ryan ) to always be kind and loving and as true cousins of mine they also never saw myself as different or disabled ….Phil and Ryan will continue this unconditional love from Carmen and Corrie love always Caroline

~ Caroline Rykhoff

My deepest condolences to you and your family Dearest Corrie, My deepest condolences to you and  your family , the  recent and sudden loss of uncle Carmen , is still a shock , and devastating for all who loved him ,please send my condolences to everyone, Carmen would want people to enjoy life as he always did ,maybe because of his love of wine or something  like that because well he is a proud Italian …. I can remember a couple of  moments  that involved  Carmen . In 2014 Renee passed away and you and Carmen were kind enough to come to a little town of Ninety six South Carolina , where Renee passed away to make sure we were all ok …..like a true Italian ..Carmen found Moonshine , made by My Harley riding neighbor …Frank Tailor….long story … Who also passed away a couple of years ago .. Carmen always had Italian luck  …so I’m sure there are 2 little bottles of moonshine somewhere located  at  1350 sprucedale ave London Ontario ..maybe ask Phil of Ryan to look for  them I’m sure they will know just where to look for these…. A few years back Carmen  came to sunny isles beach florida met a few Italians living at 19333 Collin’s ave , not sure what happened there because well  everyone involved  had a blast… but you know Italians  they are quick and kind hearted and that’s why we love them!  Carmen always  made me feel special  and loved and always overlooked the fact that. Was disabled, he made me feel normal and this is very  appreciated ad a breath of fresh air. Please  make sure to let me know if anyone needs anything ,my deepest  sympathies  again  love always Caroline Rykhoff Sent from my iPad
