Ezekiel David De Smit

March 7, 2026 - April 13, 2026

Ezekiel David De Smit went home to Jesus on April 13, 2026.

Ezekiel was born on March 7, 2026 and enjoyed the first three days of his life at home where he brought much joy to his family. He was snuggled by his parents, adored by his older siblings, and introduced to his extended family.

Sadly, it soon became apparent that Zeke would need on-going medical care. After being admitted to the Paediatric Critical Care Unit at LHSC Children’s Hospital, he received exceptional care from the medical team and the beauty of his life radiated through the unit.

In his short life, Zeke experienced intimately the effects of living in a broken world. But he was also a witness to the kindness and grace of God, through the countless prayers on his behalf, the compassionate care of his nurses and doctors, and the comforting presence of his family and members of his church family.

He is deeply loved and missed by his parents, Dave and Maddy; his older sister Eliana and older brother Noah. He is also loved and missed by his grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins. In God’s kindness, Zeke even met and was loved by great-grandparents, which reminds us of our Lord’s steadfast love and faithfulness through many generations. Ezekiel joins the great cloud of witnesses who have gone before him, including his Aunt Jess and Dave’s grandparents.

Ezekiel was a beautiful boy created in God’s image. His brief life reflected the glory of God. We know from Psalm 139:13-16 and Ephesians 1:3-6 that our Lord ordained, designed, and rejoiced over every detail of Zeke’s life, choosing him, creating him, adopting him, and raising him to eternal life with Christ. And we share this hope: that all who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved, all who repent of their sins will be forgiven, and that all who confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in their heart that God raised him from the dead, will be saved. (Acts 2:21, 1 John 1:9, Romans 10:9)

You are invited to a service celebrating Ezekiel’s life at West London Alliance Church (750 Wonderland Road North, London Ontario) on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to a luncheon that will follow the service and a private internment will take place in the afternoon. A donation has been made to Paediatric Critical Care. Message from the donator: Knowing how important this unit is for children like Zeke, we just had to make a small donation for other children who are fighting the fight of their lives. The work they do there is just amazing.

To have carried “Zeike” for these precious weeks, to know his presence, along with his warmth and place in your arms is sacred and a true blessing which will be always cherished. “Zeike’s” life has left an imprint of love on my heart as he was fearfully and wonderfully made, though his days on Earth felt too few, he experienced the love of a lifetime from all who shared his precious life, filled with purpose and God’s grace. Holding you, your family and friends alongside Ezekiel in quiet prayer at this time, ….until we meet again xo

We love being a part of your church family and we're brokenhearted by the loss of your newborn son. He was anticipated and treasured; he remains so in the loving arms of Jesus. We lift you up in prayer daily and will continue in that while you navigate this loss. (Rev. 21:5).
