Gordon Donald Mackintosh

March 27, 1945 - October 27, 2026

Born on the last night raid of WWII in London, England to parents Pauline “Joyce” Mackintosh (née Dockerill) and Donald Mackintosh. He celebrated his first birthday on the Atlantic Ocean enroute to Nova Scotia’s Pier 21. The family settled in New Brunswick and he was joined by siblings Robert (2020), Joan, Donnie (2025) and Pam. The wilderness of NB was the playground Gord and his brother Rob grew up on. His love for the great outdoors was fostered here.

In his later teenage years, the family made their way to Ontario where they finally settled in London, Ontario. It was shortly after this that he met the love of his life, Alyce Grace Mackintosh (née Cassidy)(2024) lovingly known as Gord’s Clem. Gord and Alyce were married on October 22, 1966.

Gord and Alyce had 5 children and 8 grandchildren. Grace (Guy) – Scott, Jessica (Michael) & Julian. Betty (2025) – Matthew & Nathan. Paula (Randy) – Malcolm. Dawn – Ryder. William (Sarah) – Josephine & Theodore. He had a special relationship with his beloved cousin Jeannie.

Gordie was an outdoorsman, gardener, baseball coach and a self-taught handyman. He was quick to help, to teach how to fix something, to share a drink or two, always doing so with his quick wit and sarcastic sense of humour. Entertaining all in his presence.

He proudly retired from the Ford Motor Company after just over 30 years.

He was a long-time member of the United Commercial Travelers where the London Branch was active in supporting London Community Living, Stevenson Camp and the Special Olympics to name a few.

Many will fondly remember him as Santa. Attending children’s Christmas parties, as well as in home visits to family and friend’s young ones on Christmas Eve, also making special appearances to his co-workers at Ford. Visiting everyone on the line with small gifts each year! His famous Christmas Eve parties were legendary and most didn’t end until after Christmas morning breakfasts.

In addition of his family and friends, one of his proudest accomplishments was being selected to run the Olympic torch into London for the 1988 Winter Olympics. He worked incredibly hard for that honour. While also providing his family with one of Gord’s many real-life demonstrations of how hard work and determination, goals can be achieved.

Gordie, loved his Toronto Blue Jays, London Knights, Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche, his backyard, music, concerts, and entertaining with his wife over many years, and many gatherings.

We can honour and remember those we love by participating in their passions.  Remember Gordie with one hand helping others and the other raised in a toast to the great person, husband, father, grandfather, and friend that he will forever be cherished as.
