Helen Patricia McClung (née Sweeney)

After a long life filled with many joys and sorrows, our cherished mom, grandmother, and great grandmother Helen McClung passed away on Sunday, October 22nd, 2023.
Helen is survived by her daughter Pat Durnford (Doug) of Grand Bend, her grandson Chris (Julia) of New York, her granddaughter Rebecca Hodgins of Ilderton, and the light of her life, her great grandson Owen Hodgins of Ilderton. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Lois Sweeney of St. Marys, and her niece Elaine Harding (Peter) of Calgary. Helen was predeceased by her first husband Stan Gibson (1956), her second husband Burton McClung (1977), and her third husband Ken Wilson (2021). She was also predeceased by her parents Marion and Cecil Sweeney, her sister Mary, and her brother William.
Mom spent much of her early life in the Thorndale area. In 1956 she established the 1st Thorndale Brownie Pack and was an active Brown Owl for many years.
Helen treasured time with her family, but she also enjoyed bowling leagues, shopping, entertaining, a game of cards, and especially dancing.
Mom’s amazing memory and her knowledge and awareness of our world was evident up to her last breath.
A gathering to honour Helen will be held at Northview Funeral Chapel, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London, on Saturday, November 11th, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with remembrances to be given at 3:00 p.m.
Helen loved all pets, but especially dogs and black cats so she would welcome donations to the Humane Society London and Middlesex or to The Walk of Champions for Multiple Myeloma Cancer Research at LHSC for her daughter Pat.

Hi- We live about a block away from where Helen lived. I enjoyed chatting with Helen and Ken over many years, dropping by their front porch when biking or walking. Helen was always friendly and chatty of course! Helen always knew what was going on in the neighborhood and would fill us in. A good soul-she and Ken are missed.
