John Francis “Daniel” Johnson

June 27, 1937 - June 11, 2026

Daniel Johnson passed away peacefully in London, Ontario on June 11, 2026 in his 89th year. He was the beloved husband of Cherie for more than 67 years and the father of: Danny (Linda) Johnson predeceased in 2010, Alice (Michael) Whitson, Catherine (Gino) Falzone and David (Jennifer) Johnson and was loved dearly by his grandchildren: Andrew, Jillian, Alisha, Daniel, Sam, Haley, Nicole, Matthew, Michael, Chelsea and Megan and great grandchildren James, Caledonia, Isobel and Rowan. He was predeceased by his parents Hilda (Meredith) and Hector Johnson, and brother Lewis Johnson, sisters Gwen Hamilton and Joy Watts and sister-in-law Mary (Don) Truan. He is survived by his brother Fred Johnson and sister-in-law Carol (Jim) Robinson and many nieces and nephews.

Dan and Cherie spent most of their married life in a small farming community near Charlemont, Ontario where he ran a successful business contracting for underground utilities and installing swimming pools. He was a member of the Charlemont Free Methodist church and his faith guided him throughout his life. After retiring, Dan and Cherie moved to London to be closer to family and their hobby farm in Wingham.

Dan’s infectious smile and kindness, together with Cherie’s hospitality created a vibrant and welcoming home for many. “Digger Dan” was happiest when he was busy – splitting wood, mending fences, tending gardens and ponds, making maple syrup, supervising church renovations or just “puttering” in the barn. He loved family beyond measure and many wonderful years were spent at the Alps of Culross hobby farm teaching his grandchildren to ride a snowmobile, drive an ATV, cross country ski and appreciate the wonder of nature.

Dan and Cherie were proud Canadians and while they travelled extensively in Canada, the U.S and Europe after his retirement they loved to be home with family.

We would like to thank the staff at Ashwood Manor Retirement Home, Mount Hope LTC – St. Mary’s 3 and the Palliative, Internal and Emergency Teams at University Hospital for their care and compassion.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Northview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 1490 Highbury Ave North, London, Ontario on Wednesday, June 17th at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation immediately before the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Just heard this news today and had a good cry. We were so fortunate to live across the street from Dan and Cherie for more than ten years and they were the very best neighbours anyone could ever hope for. My girls adored their “Mr. Johnson” and he always had a huge smile and time for them. I cannot think of a kinder, more generous man. Thinking of your family and all who loved him. Linda, Kyla, and Julia Seaton

Alice, Mike and families, My heart goes out to all of of you during this very difficult time and I am so very sorry for the pain in your hearts. If I know one thing it's that your father's faith was strong and he may be gone from your sight but it's only because he is onto his next adventure; strong and healthy finding joy in everything he can inside the Kingdom of Heaven. Reuniting with everyone who went before him and probably helping to plan and prepare all of the accommodations for the rest of his loved ones that have yet to arrive. I will always remember your Dad as such a genuinely loving, sweet, kind man with a beautiful heart. He was one of my very favorite people I remember from my childhood. Whenever we were at your parents house or around your family, you all always felt like a branch of family to me. He will always be lovingly remembered by so many. ❤️

~ Amanda Turner

To Cherie, Alice, Cathy, David, and families, you have our deepest sympathies for the loss of your very special father. We loved him dearly. His smile, his patience, his love of fun and the outdoors, his humour, and his kindness will never be forgotten. What a great man he was in every way. He was a treasured friend for as long as we can remember to Mom and Dad and all 3 of us. He will be missed but left a great legacy. The Glasgow family.
