John “Ross” Munro

October 11, 2023

John “Ross” Munro, born May 8, 1960, quietly passed away on October 11, 2023 at 1:20 pm at University Hospital, London, Ontario. Ross was born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia and was the only son of the late Claude Munro and Donna (MacAulay) Cannell. Later in his youth, he moved from Cape Breton to New Brunswick where he spent his teen years with his family, including mother and step-brothers before moving to Ontario at the age of 19. From a young age, Ross enjoyed hockey, both on the ice and as a spectator. He coached for several years with the George Bray Hockey Association located in London, Ontario.  Ross loved playing cribbage with his siblings, nieces and nephews, and enjoyed being the hard one to beat in the Munro clan, carrying on his father’s love of the game as well as being ruthless with a “show no mercy” attitude to any opponent. If you won against him, it was truly a win because he would never just let you win. Ross is survived by Annette and their children; daughter Mackenzie, and sons Jason and Daniel. He is also survived by his sisters, Claudia (George) Walsh, Sheila Munro and Barbara Munro; nieces, Shelley (Andrew), Hana (Kevin) and Erin (Sean); and nephews, Scott (Jennifer), Nicholas (Kim), and Heath along with numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant son Kurtis, step-father John Cannell, and step-brothers John and David Cannell.

Sincere thanks goes out to Annette Munro for being a devoted mother and friend to Ross’s family during his hospital stay.  The entire Munro family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Bakir and the outstanding nursing staff on the Acute Medicine and Palliative Care Team.  A special thank you to Wendy McEwen for the amazing level of care and compassion she provided to Ross and also to each member of his family. We will be forever grateful to each and every one of you.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Northview Funeral Chapel and Cremation Centre, located at 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London, Ontario.
