Luan Luc

July 14, 1931 - October 22, 2021

With heavy hearts, we are sad to announce Luan Luc, artistically known as Shec Von Luc, passed away on Friday, October 22nd, 2021 in his 90th year.

Born in Canton, China, Shec Von was a remarkable and talented artist who journeyed from China to Vietnam and then to London, Ontario in 1980. Through his Chinese calligraphy, poetry, and spectacular works of art, he inspired hundreds of students, fellow artists, and art enthusiasts around the world. He mentored countless students at Western University and The London Public Library where he taught Chinese art for 9 years and 25 years respectively. He wove a worldwide network for Chinese art enthusiasts to come together, with the objective of showcasing art and calligraphy by leading local and national art associations as well as organizing exhibitions in Canada, US, and China. One of his most heartfelt accomplishments was being recognized as one of the top 100 Chinese artists worldwide. This award was granted by the Chinese government in celebration of the 2008 Beijing Olympics where his artwork was exhibited.

To his family, he will be remembered not only as a famous artist but as the man who bravely, leaving everything he established, brought his family from a land of communism to a land of freedom – Canada. His loved ones will forever remember the sacrifices endured, lessons learned, and the opportunities that he has gifted them.

No success story is achieved alone. Shec Von and his devoted wife, Nu Luc, celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this year. Their union brought six children: David, Cuong, Brian, Khiet Chi, Linh Chi, and Le-Chi. They extended their family to daughter-in-law Shelley, Binh, and Jasmine, and son-in-law Kit and Kenjo. The family tree blossomed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren Jennifer (Andy), Megan, Darian, Derrek, Maisy, Ryan, Lukan, Luana, and Ava. Predeceased by his younger sister My Luc.

His family will fondly miss his exciting recounts of stories from the past, quotes from ancient history, and the unveiling of new artwork and calligraphy that was inspired by them.

Please join the celebration of Shec Von’s legacy on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Northview Funeral Chapel, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London, Ontario.
