Nathaniel Bennett Torresan

April 21, 1990 - March 12, 2021

Passed away suddenly on March 12, 2021. Husband to his loving wife Emily (Minall). Precious son to Graziano and Lorraine (Davey). Dear brother to Olivia (Sam) and Emma. Son-in-law to Gary Minall and Kim Otto. Brother-in-law to Gabie (Paul) Minall. Eldest grandson to Patricia Davey, nephew and cousin to many, friend to all. Proud dog dad to sweet rescue pup, Simcoe.

Nate was born in London, Ontario on April 21, 1990. He was a well known and loved member of the London community. Known for his generosity and sense of humour, he made a lasting impact wherever he went. He is fondly remembered by his Medway Highschool family as an avid athlete, talented musician and for his friendly, inclusive persona. He is greatly missed by his peers in the Ontario craft beer industry, who knew him for his passion and generosity.

He married his wife of 7 years after first asking her to the prom when they were 18. He loved spending time with his family and friends, going to concerts, sports games, biking and playing on his local hockey and baseball teams. You could often find Nate enjoying his favourite foods on a local patio with his wife, watching sports with his Dad, or at number one on the leaderboard of any trivia game about The Office.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 18 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Northview Funeral Chapel and Cremation Centre, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London, where a private family service will be held on Friday March 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Even though attendance at Nate’s service will be limited to family, friends are invited to watch the service online. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Nate are encouraged to consider the following charities near to his heart: Second Chance Animal Auction Rescue, Black Health Alliance or Canadian Tire Jumpstart.

The visitation periods are currently full. Please check back regularly should a spot become available.

For information on how to register for Nate’s visitation, to watch the live stream of the service, or to leave condolences, please click the links to the left of the obituary.

Please note: as per the directive of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, attendance numbers will be restricted. Please be aware that COVID-19 protocols are in place which may preclude some from being able to attend and masks are mandatory at both indoor and outdoor services.

The family asks that you hug your loved ones, spend time in the London community that he loved and raise a glass of craft beer to celebrate the life of the loving husband, devoted son, protective big brother and caring friend we all miss so much.

~ Noël Wright

To Nate’s family; Thank you. Thank you for raising such an incredible one-of-kind man who we are all blessed and better for knowing. I met Nate in the middle of a huge rainstorm during a craft beer event, and even though we had just met, he was all smiles, so welcoming, so helpful, so fun. Impossible not to immediately like this person. I’m immensely happy we became friends from that and those same qualities deepened. What an ability he had to make so many feel so special no matter how well you knew him. I moved back home about two years ago and we still kept in touch every single day; sharing silly pictures, outtakes from The Office, or him sending videos of Simcoe to brighten a morning. Even from afar he kept that same feeling going. My heart and thoughts go out to you all for this unimaginable loss. He made an impact for the better on so many people’s lives and will be missed greatly. Love to you all, Shelagh Graham

~ Shelagh

Nate became my brother through marriage- he and Darcy were a package deal. And regardless of time, distance, or circumstance, he made it clear that we were family no matter what. He could hold space for complexity, knowing that love outweighed anything else. We shared some big life moments together, ones that I will cherish forever. And even though his service started at 11:00 PST, you better believe I raised a glass for Nate. He wouldn’t want it any other way.

~ Acasia

I am very saddened to hear of Nate’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time. May God’s love and peace surround you. My most sincere condolences. Anne (Wilson) Buchanan

~ Anne Buchanan

I have spoken to many people in the craft beer industry over the past 3 days about Nate. The same things are said in every single conversation. Nate was unfailingly kind, warm and thoughtful. He made everyone that he interacted with feel comfortable. He made you smile and laugh with a natural ease. I have heard over and over that Nate was special and it is so true. I am blessed to have known Nate and will never forget him. Thoughts and prayers to Emily and all of Nate's family and friends.

~ David Mitchell

Our most sincere condolences to Emily and Nate's families. Hugs and Love...Dennis, Brian, Wendy.

Mark, Hannah and Elijah Gray would like to extend their deepest sympathies from Peterborough Ontario. We are so very sorry for your loss and want you to know that we are thinking of Nathaniel and of course Emily and all family members at this time.

~ Mark Gray

My condolences to Emily and Nate’s family. Nate was one of the funniest people in my life. A top notch guy that was adored by all. I had the pleasure of sharing many laughs with Nate throughout high school, playing volleyball, and rec hockey. He will be deeply missed.

~ Kevin McRae

Nate was one of my first small group leaders at North Park. I looked up to him, you could always count on him to bring a lot of energy and humour to any situation. I always knew him to have a big smile and make a witty comment, but that wittiness was backed by a very smart brain. He loved baseball and was one of the fastest guys on the ball diamond when we played softball a few years back. One time during our spring training practice which was so unnecessary, he still came on his crutches just to be a motivator and spectator, love that. I also had a fun opportunity to DJ Nate and Emily’s wedding remembering their goofy dancing walking out to the reception to “Holy Grail” or their first dance song “I Will Be Blessed” by Ben Howard, I always think of Emily and Nate when I hear that song. I was devastated to hear the news about Nate and it has made me realize how big of an impact he had on so many lives. To Nates family, you have been on my mind ever since. I hope you find comfort through the next few days and find a way to celebrate the amazing person he was. Nate was truly a great guy and I am so sad to hear he is gone far too early. My sincerest condolences, Nate will be extremely missed by so many.

~ Ben Stiller

Our deepest sympathy to all. Prayers and thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

~ Tina, Samantha, Spencer

Nathan was an amazing friend to our son Jacob and our whole family. A friend that Jacob knew he could always count on and was always there when he needed him. We have many wonderful memories of the boys growing up together through Sunday school, Elementary school, Youth at Northpark, Medway High School, volleyball and much more. Nathan was easy to love and always fun to have around. We appreciated his strong and loyal friendship to our son. We have immense sorrow for the pain and loss you are enduring. Our lives were blessed by his presence.

~ Patrick and Rachel Hoefnagels

Dear Graz, Lorraine, Olivia, Emma, and Emily, I am so terribly sorry for the loss of Nate, my heart goes out to you during this unimaginably difficult time. I knew Nate best as my brother's friend and as a teammate. I have tons of other wonderful memories as well (for example, beating him at a chicken wing eating contest) but I remember him best in those two ways. Nate was such an incredible, loyal friend to Jacob and I am so thankful for that. Nate and I played on many sports teams together over the years and I was always excited when we were on the same team. Not only because of his skill but because he made me and the entire team better. He always added so much to the team with his leadership, humor, and kindness. I will sorely miss him, he has had such a positive impact on my life.

~ James Hoefnagels

https://youtu.be/ipVm5uH6Qy4 This was one of my favourite trips and memories with Nate. I’ve probably re watched it 10 times today, and each time I realized he was still an absolute rascal. Love you man, seriously one of my favourite people who I’m going to miss way too much. But these memories will never go away. He’s definitely expecting me to bring a beer to the visitation and I just might.

~ Christopher Evans

Emily, I don’t have the words. Nate is an incredible person that I will always cherish as one of my closest friends. He made an impact wherever he went with his infectious personality, his generosity and his incredibly gentle heart. Wood Craft and Essex is hurting with you through this time. Please know that you are in our hearts as Nate will forever be as well. Anything you need, you know we will always be here for you. Kyle

~ Kyle Ringler

My heart goes out to Emily, and the Torresan Family. I had known Nate for many years, attending sunday school and youth group together at North Park. We didn't know each other very well in the younger years, but i knew i wanted to be friends with him. Fast-forward a couple years, when Nate, Richie, Matt and Darcy asked me to join their band, Living Martyr. Those following years became some of the most transformative and impactful years of my life. We became family. Nate was a brother to me. Although we had lost touch a bit when i moved away from London, i had still felt a strong connection with Nate because of the meaningful time we shared together. The amount of laughs and memories that Nate provided, a calculator could not count, and i will cherish them forever. Love you, man.

~ Sean Richman

Olivia and Emma I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your brother. I fondly remember teaching Nate in grade 9 science at Medway. He was bright, kind and always helpful and considerate in the classroom. May he rest in peace. Maureen ONeill

My deepest sympathies to Nate's wife, family, close friends, and anyone who was lucky enough to know him. He was a bright and warm light that filled every room he entered. I will always remember his great smile and the way he made everyone feel welcome and valued. He had a great energy that will be very missed and I am very sad that I will not get the chance to cross paths with him again. Thank you Nate for the beer, for the laughs, and for the easy conversation.

~ Britt Bragg

I've been struggling to find the words this week to express how I feel. This news has been a complete shock and I'm so heartbroken for every single person who has had the privilege to know Nate. I first met Nate in high school at a church basement show where Living Martyr was playing. Being a recent fan of the metalcore genre, I was instantly hooked and not long after, I wound up as the new bassist for the band. I distinctly remember Nate picking me up in the family Nissan minivan to bring me to my first band practice. He patiently taught me all my parts before I whipped out my practice amp, only to be immediately drowned out by his half stack guitar amp and the double kick of the drums. It didn't matter. That first band practice set the tone for me. I think half the practice was Nate and Matt jumping off gear "practicing their stage presence". That was most band practices, to be honest. It was 85% jokes, 10% breakdowns, and 5% trying to write new music. We may have needed to practice our stage presence together a bit more, however, because I still vividly remember smacking him in the head with my bass, mid-set, which led to some pretty metal photos afterwards and blood pouring down his face. They were definitely posted on our Myspace. Nate's joy in rehearsal and energy on stage was infectious. Outside of the band was no different. He challenged you to be better. As a moody and insecure teenager, I was not always receptive, but now that I've grown up a lot I appreciate his accountability as a friend. Never putting up with any of my BS. I think Richie really summarized Nate's best qualities as a friend. Everything he said came from a place of love and it was crucial in those formative high school years. Although I have long since moved away from London and lost touch with many people, the band holds a really special place in my life and, by extension, so does Nate. I can pinpoint the trajectory of my life back to that first band practice where I fell in love with making music, which turned into a passion for recording it. If it wasn't for the profound and positive influence Nate (and the rest of our bandmates) had on me I would not be where I am or have had any of the experiences I've had since. I am so so sorry for everyone's loss. Reading through these posts shows how much of an impact Nate had on everyone he met. I am comforted to know that he still held the same love and welcoming spirit for all these years. All my love to everyone who knew him

~ Dane Kelly

Nate was my best friend years and years ago at Hillcrest Public School. Between basketball and volleyball at Hillcrest and Youth group at Northpark, we were always hanging out together. Although I hadn't seen him since grade 8, we kept in touch occasionally and he always left an incredible impact on me. He was the nicest, most friendly, and most kind individual I ever had the pleasure of knowing. His ear to ear smile would light up the room. We were most recently chatting about taking our dogs out for a walk when I was back to London to visit. We both had rescued our pups from local shelters; that was so like Nate, rescuing a dog to give it a better life. I wish that we could have gotten together for our pups to be best friends too. Nate, I knew you were the best dog dad, the best husband, and the best friend to many. Your impact on me will not be forgotten; you will be immensely missed. To Graziano and Lorraine, thanks for driving me around to volleyball games in grade 8, I remember your old Nissan van that I spent so much time in. To Nate's siblings, wife, and friends and family, Nate was one of the best guys I ever had the pleasure of knowing. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Jared Bruce

~ Jared Bruce

My deepest condolences to the Torresan family, to Emily. I loved talking hockey over beers, Rest In Peace my Friend.

~ Todd Horton

Even though the events of life took us in different directions to where we lost contact years ago I have always considered Nate my friend. His friendship to me from Jr high at Northpark, through Medway and even landscaping together after that is something that I have, and will continue to cherish. Memories of us fishing at the cottage, swimming at my parent's house, setting up the mini trampoline under the basketball net have been flooding into my mind. I have some of my best memories growing up with Nate. I am so thankful that God brought him into my life and used him to help mold me into who I am today. Please accept my condolences for your loss and know that I am praying for you during this time. With love, James

My condolences go out to Emily and the entire family. I have known Nate for about 10 years, we went to youth group together, had the same circle of friends for a long time, he was always the first person to make you laugh! We recently reconnected and talked about our experiences in youth group, Nate was truly a friend I could trust and know that he had my back if I needed. Nate was such a genuine and kind hearted person and would help anyone who needed it before himself. I am devastated to hear this news beyond words. My heart and prayers go out to Emily and the family through this hard time.

~ April Lovie

My deepest sympathies to Nate's family and friends. It was always a pleasure to see Nate whenever our paths crossed.
