Pat Vladars (née Rose)

March 19, 2023

Pat Vladars (neé Rose) passed away on March 19th, 2023, surrounded by family, in London at the age of 67. Pat and her dedicated husband, Joe, were married for over 44 years. She was the very proud mother to three boys: Michael, David (Nicole) and Matthew (Katie); and a loving Oma to two grandchildren: Sadie and Colin. She is survived by her brother, Doug (Kathleen).

Pat grew up in Toronto and Kitchener, graduating from Wilfrid Laurier University, followed by Teacher’s College at Western. Pat spent three years teaching, before stepping away to raise “her boys.” She returned to teaching years later, starting at Churchill Public School in East London, before finishing her career at Northdale Central Public School in Dorchester. As a devoted French teacher, she was affectionately known by her students as “Madame.” Pat was an avid athlete, and put those skills to use coaching both volleyball and basketball. Outside of teaching, Pat loved traveling with Joe, whether it was camping, somewhere warm or to Europe.

Pat’s family would like to thank the staff at Highview Residences, who provided her with excellent and compassionate care over her final years. Also, thanks to the many friends and family members who provided support during Pat’s illness, in particular Micky, Phil and Doug.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Pat’s life will be held at Northview Funeral Chapel, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation 1 hour prior. Dear Joe, I knew Pat and your young boys from Metropolitan United Church Sunday School. Reading Pat's obituary made me realize that Pat and my husband Ken had similar journeys. Ken was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers in his late 50s and died just before his 67th birthday. I respected Pat very much when we knew each other so many years ago and wanted to extend my best wishes to you. The Alzheimer journey is very difficult for the family who sees their loved one slowly disappear. All the best to you and your family as you continue to move forward. Sincerely, Janet Fleet

Dear Joe & family: We are so very sorry for your loss. From the time we first met in first-year university, through our young married years, and on into our grown-up travel years, Pat and I enjoyed a wonderful, deep friendship. You could always count on Pat's love and commitment whether you were walking side by side or were distances apart. Always thoughtful, spirited and funny, she truly enjoyed life. Her continued dedication to her family and her students was both impressive and heartwarming. Using one of her favourite words, Pat was simply awesome. I am forever grateful that our paths crossed some 50 years ago and that together, over those years, we were able to share life experiences – the easy, carefree ones and the more recent, challenging ones. Pat's photo is a wonderful reminder of her grace. We are thinking of you during this difficult time.

Dearest Joe, Michael, David, Matthew, and Doug, Robert and I send our deep condolences on the passing of Pat your wife, mother, and sister. It was tragic that a lady filled with so much love could get such a cruel disease. Pat was very loving and very lovable. Pat enjoyed young people - all her students and the many she coached. She was admired by them and was influential in their successes. Her strong bond with her brother Doug was mirrored by the loving care he always showed her. It would be a splendid world if all siblings cared for and looked out for one another as they did. Family was everything to Pat. Together, with her wonderful husband Joe they enjoyed a happy life, albeit much too short. Joe and Pat were a perfect couple and dedicated parents. Pat was completely dedicated to Michael, David, Matthew, and their families, and was very proud of all their many accomplishments. The immortality of her influence will live on through her three sons and their families. Sending love from Robert and me - your cousin.

Our hearts are so heavy today to hear of the passing of mme! She had such a light about her that others were lucky to stand under the glow of. She’s the entire reason I’m bilingual and a huge part of how I grew, and who I became. She helped to form my mindset and was always willing to listen while we sang and prepped.
