Theodorus Jacobus Koolen

May 2, 1933 - August 25, 2020

Theodorus Josephus “Ted” Koolen passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, in his 88th year. Cherished husband of Paula (née Van Bommel). Father to Geri (Stephanie), John, and Ron (Heather) Koolen. Ted is survived by his siblings, Chris Koolen and Johanna (late Herman) Straatman. He was a grandfather and great-grandfather and had many loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his siblings: Albert Vandenbogaard, Hendrika Vervoordelodonk, Nellie Vandenbogaard, Theo Vandenbogaard, Miet Van Lierop, Driek Koolen, Nol Koolen and Thiest Koolen. Ted was born in Heusden, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands, before he immigrated to Canada in the 1950s. Ted was a proud member of the Dutch Army, where he served in many worldwide locations, including Indonesia. Ted often regaled stories of the great comradery in the army as well as his love of playing the trumpet. Ted and Paula spent countless hours playing cards and every family get-together included a few card games. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at NORTHVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1490 Highbury Avenue North, London. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. MICHAEL’S CATHOLIC PARISH, 511 Cheapside Street, London on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Please note: as per the directive of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, https://thebao.ca/registrars-directive-changes-to-funeral-and-visitation-attendance/ attendance numbers will be restricted. Please be aware that COVID-19 protocols are in place which may preclude some from being able to attend and masks are mandatory.
