Willemina Staring TerVrugt

March 20, 2023

Peacefully, at home, on Monday, March 20th, 2023, in her 80th year. Loving mother of Raquelle (Jeffrey), Julie (Kevin), and predeceased by her husband Richard Dirk (2022) and son Richard (2017). Beloved Oma of Caitlin, Bethany, Benjamin, Nicholas and Emily. Greatly missed by her sister Ann (Ken) and predeceased by her sisters, Nelly and Coby.  Beloved sister-in-law of Jan, Map and Gerritt TerVrugt.  She was a special cousin, aunt, and friend.

Mom was born in 1942 in Sassenheim, Netherlands and emigrated to Canada in 1952 with her parents and sisters, settling in Mississauga, ON. Mom and Dad met in a Toronto church choir, which eventually led to their beautiful winter marriage.

Mom was an avid educator – she was a Registered Nurse, received her Bachelor of Education degree, she was a “Murphy Molar Mom” for the London Health Unit, an inspiring Personal Support Worker Instructor at Trios College and Past President of the Canadian Federation of University Women.

Mom was well-loved and a sweet soul. She loved her family, her church, her cozy home, the colour purple, flowers, dessert, Elvis and beer. We will miss her dearly.

Our deep gratitude to friends and family members, Dr. Daniel Leger, and the PSWs (VON) who so kindly helped care for Mom these past few years.

Donations in Mom’s memory can be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, The Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners, or Canadian Cancer Society.
