William Peter Steciuk

May 4, 1947 - November 23, 2020

Compassionate, honest, caring, respectful, empathetic and committed – these are qualities of a good doctor. This personified Bill Steciuk, who devotedly cared for his patients, family and friends for almost 50 years.

Surrounded by his loving family, Bill Steciuk passed away peacefully on November 23rd in London. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 49 years, Sharon, and by his children, Fred Steciuk (Sarah), Suzanne Young (Jason) and Maggie Steciuk (Daryl Campbell) and grandchildren Addison, Rex and Foster who affectionally called him Papa.

Dr. Bill was well known by family and friends for his kindness, generosity and humour. His life story ingrained these traits in him…

The son of immigrants, Bill did not learn English until he started grade school but certainly learned his core values while growing up in a Ukrainian speaking community within Toronto.

While at the University of Western Ontario, he met the love of his life, Sharon. In 1976, they moved to Exeter where Dr. Bill served as a family doctor to the community and surrounding area until his final months. Bill had great respect for his patients and his warmth, empathy, and caring nature were certainly on display throughout his career. Bill made regular ‘house call’ visits in the community, delivered hundreds of babies in the Exeter hospital, and in 2004, after retiring from his large practice, he continued serving his patients in the local nursing home until very recently. In fact, early on, he would bring his favorite yellow Labrador, Sam, to do nursing home rounds with him. Bill would smile and say “patients seem to enjoy the dog more than me!”

Bill was at his happiest when spending time with his family and friends. He always said how lucky he felt to have all of his children living close by and how extremely proud of them he was. Our family has built a lifetime of great memories with many dinners and get togethers, golf outings at the London Hunt, and enjoying the winter months at the Devils Glen Ski Club for many joyous years.

Loved and revered by his extended family and the many dear friends that he gathered throughout his lifetime, his loss is shared by many. A celebration of Bill’s life will take place for friends and family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, you might consider a donation to the London Regional Cancer Program (519-685-8409) which was very important to Bill during his battle with cancer.

To the Steciuk family. My sincere condolences on the loss of a great man. I had so hoped he would beat this again and enjoy more years skiing, golfing and spending time with family. I have known Dr. Steciuk for just over 29 years through Exeter Villa. He loved his work, his residents and his family. He treated each resident like the individual they are. He found something unique about each one of them and would talk to them about it or tease them about each time he saw them. His rounds with Sam and Max always made us smile (and we were just as happy to see him as the dogs). The purses that Sharon sent for a particular resident were very much appreciated. He loved sharing stories and pictures about his children and grandchildren. He was very proud of all of you. I will the jokes he shared with me during his visits. I will miss him. Take care, Trudy Hodgins RN at Exeter Villa

To Sharon and the entire Steciuk family we extend our heartfelt sympathy. Bill was our family doctor for many years and we are eternally grateful for his service. He saved Tom's life a couple of times when he had dangerous reactions to allergy shots and also instigated a vigorous plan of attack to lead to a diagnosis of cancer in 1993 which also led to a complete recovery. His dedication to his family practice will always be cherished.
